An early upload but the rest will be scheduled. Long as I can figure out how to do that on SJ.

I don't usually do long death scenes. Definitely didn't want to do one of those 'going nobly into the night' ones though. I think we'd like to imagine ourselves going out stoically with meaningful final words but I wonder how many of us will go out still afraid of what's to come. I guess that depends on the kind of death. In nature though I don't think many go out peacefully in their sleep or unaware of the world around them due to dementia and the like. Especially not prey animals.

Oh wow...this and the other page are amazing. I have to admit, I actually didn't think that he would die but...it's interesting, especially considering what Rig had talked to Pace about. Sure, I feel really bad for Rig and Fen right now (these pages are really emotionally impacting- especially since I hadn't expected it) but both Rig and Pace will be in the same situation now. (Also, Fen saying that he loves Rig feels really important, especially considering all that Rig had said about love.)

Also, I like what this page is doing. You're right about the death thing, about animals in the wild not having fast or easy deaths. How drawn out this feels...it honestly makes it a lot more emotionally impacting. How panicked Fen looks and Rig weak from the sickness besides him adds to everything...it sure is sad, but great and I'm excited to see where this goes afterwards.

(Sorry for typing so much, but I haven't commented here in awhile-)

@SoIitude:

Fen couldn't even keep to his plans, and that alone did him in. Wolves birth around March, spring. Had Fen waited until summer or even just until a deeper spring, he would not likely be so hunted. Pregnant wolves are more reckless, and stay home more -if I recall.

This is all feeling weirdly like Fen stopped being Rig's coward at the worst point, and just jumped into dying.

But then again.

Fen was given a short name for a reason.

ive been wanting to comment since the miscarriage but just havent found the words to do so so heres my attempt

imho youre depicting these really heavy scenes very well. It's shocking and sad and horrible, but I sense sincerity, that nothing youve written has been done for pure shock value, especially in the most serious parts of this comic

so just, thank you for that, i hope you can sense the sincerity that im trying to convey here; cos i have a lot of emotions and theyre spilling everywhere

That panel where Fen can't see/is losing it - it's just so spot on. I don't think deaths in wild nature are easy, they are mostly quick and premature, but at the end of the day I think we'll all have some version of that, just at a later point. And maybe when you're on that threshold, the amount of time you're leaving behind you only matters for those staying behind.

I dunno what I think about the last three panels - it's hard to work in a line about love without making it sound at least a bit cheesy but I have a feeling it's what everyone wants to say and wants to hear when they are dying, or at least thinks and feels it, so it might as well be there as text anyway.
