What a beautiful idea. Your opinion, deadwood?

Also I'm curious since it came up over on the other site I use to post comics; what gender/pronouns do people default to with deadwood? I always use they but I don't have any preference for which people choose to use.

Honestly, any pronoun will do. The Father, the Mother, or simply "It".

Whatever you decide.

Though personally I envision the forest as feminine. Mother Nature and all that jazz.

I always thought of the deadwood as a guy, but now I’m not sure. I know it doesn’t have a gender, I just always made it voice sound masculine in my head. XD

I agree with Florescentscales, as I've always heard their voice as more male- but really I know that they don't really have a gender. To me I feel like their voice would be calming, but in a way that can be agitating when their talking about things that make Rig mad. (I know that the question was about gender- but I figured I would say what I figured they sounded like too.)

Well the demon has done similar before. Long term though the strong and weak would grow resentful of each other. To start your community by establishing an ‘other’ being those who are healthy. Of course the demon needs a plan for when Rig leaves him. He was brought low before, and though he will be healthy he will once again be alone. A cult of the ill would provide many who could take Rig’s place. Just change up the deal to ‘indefinite service in exchange for indefinite life’ and name them leader of the herd. Should they ever act against your interests simply feign ignorance until they go too far, kill them, and chose a successor based on who the herd would be willing to follow. This way the demon will not scare off those who would serve it.

For pronouns I stick to ‘it’. The demon does not birth nor impregnate. At least not that we’ve seen. Additionally keeping it as an ‘it’ maintains its ambiguity and inhumanity. The demon beyond traditional understanding, and any gendering is our attempt to bridge that gap.

In all honesty, I thought deadwood was male, or at least has a deep, yet soothing, masculine voice.

Male

reply

I know Deadwood is genderless but have always thought of it as male anyway not based on voice just on how I feel when it talks to Rig.

For some reason I've always thought of the deadwood as female

also, Rig in the future when the forest is filled with 50000 zombie deer: this is fine

Tree Genders Exist

reply

Actually some trees come in both male/female. Depending on it's flowering stage and germ. Pine cones are from female pine trees, but the males make tiny gold bulbs that release the pollen. Sometimes trees switch..
I've always heard the tree in my head as voiceless, like to each deer their own voice.

I use "they" for Deadwood because it's... the polite default pronoun, and you use it and I tend to trust authors with gender identification of their OCs. <:D

I always mentally gave Deadwood a similar voice to the beast in OtGW but never considered it male or female
